KEY POINTS:
Iraq's Government and the International Olympic Committee have agreed on a new process to govern the election of the Iraqi Olympic body.
The agreement, reached on the sidelines of the Games in Beijing, is the latest chapter in a three-month dispute between Iraq and the IOC.
The tussle began when Iraq's Government dismissed the country's national Olympic committee, accusing its members of corruption, and replaced them with a team led by a Cabinet minister.
The IOC said the move amounted to "government interference" and in May suspended Iraq's membership.
A last-minute compromise, reached late last month, allowed some Iraqi athletes to participate, but it was too late for some because entry deadlines for their sports had passed.
Only five Iraqi athletes are competing in Beijing.
Under the latest agreement, Iraq will organise elections for the country's sports federations, whose members will then vote for the new national Olympic committee.
