KEY POINTS:
A slow time has ruled Adrian Blincoe out of the Olympic 5000 metres final.
He finished in 13 minutes 55.27 to take seventh place, just over 45 seconds outside his personal best.
The top four from his heat advanced, as well as the three fastest qualifiers across the board.
Blincoe thought he had conserved enough energy for the last lap, but faded over the final 400 metres.
He said there were several in the field who had broken 13 minutes so he knew he had to be smart and run well.
Blincoe was 13 seconds outside the qualifying mark for the final.
