8.40am: Men's 1500m final. New Zealand's Nick Willis has fallen by the wayside but Moroccan world champion Hicham El Guerrouj will be chasing the Olympic gold medal he has missed twice before. Have your late-to-work excuse handy.
FATHER TROUBLE
Security guards had to be called in at the women's wrestling, but the trouble was in the stands, not on the mat. Former professional wrestler "Animal" Hamaguchi tried to leap from the stands to protest when Chinese opponent Wang Xu was awarded victory in the 72kg semifinal over his daughter, Kyoko Hamaguchi, of Japan. Wang went on to win gold, with Hamaguchi taking the bronze.
GIANT LEAP
Women's triple-jumper Francoise Mbango Etone has won the first athletics gold medal for Cameroon and its first for a female competitor. Her winning distance of 15.30m was an African record. "I was very proud. I want to dedicate this medal to the whole of Africa," she said. The 28-year-old trains without a coach.
QUICK AND QUIET
New Olympic sprint king Justin Gatlin is promising a different kind of reign to that of his extrovert team-mate Maurice Greene. "It was my time to show that good guys finish first, and that's what I am, a good guy," said Gatlin, who ran a lifetime best of 9.85s to take the 100m gold late on Sunday. He told reporters there would be no outbursts in news conferences or on the track. "I am a laidback guy. I just want to give a good image to the sport."
