Even Olympians can succumb to the perils of snooze buttons.
Despite the hustle and bustle of the athletes' village, two athletes have admitted to sleeping through their alarm clocks before their events.
British weightlifter Jack Oliver said he planned to get out of bed at 6am ahead of his competition. However, he found himself still tucked under his covers an hour later.
"I was meant to be up at six o'clock, go downstairs and have a nice pre-weigh-in shower and a bit of a stretch," he told the Guardian. "But at five past seven I hear a banging on the door, looked at my phone and thought 'I'm in trouble!'"
After racing onto a later bus to the ExCel arena, Oliver arrived in time for the weigh-in. He went on to produce his best ever performance.
