Kiwi Winter Olympics bid hits Facebook

An ambitious Facebook site urging support for a South Island Winter Olympics bid is failing to gain much traction.

The New Zealand 2022 site advocates Christchurch as host city, sharing the honours with Queenstown.

It was set up in the middle of last year by four people from New Zealand and Australia, including a Queensland high school student, with the aim of gathering 10,000 members to support the bid.

But so far just 365 people have joined the page.

Although the site boasts a link to a professional-looking two minute promotional video and logo, chat dialogue points to the challenges attached to such a bid.
