KEY POINTS:
BEIJING - New Zealand kayakers Steven Ferguson and Mike Walker finished sixth in the Olympic K2 1000m final at Shunyi today.
German pair Martin Hollstein and Andreas Ihle won gold in a time of three minutes 11.809 seconds, with Denmark and Italy claiming silver and bronze.
Ferguson and Walker made a strong start and were third behind early leaders Hungary at the 250m mark before fading to finish sixth in a time 3min 15.329sec.
Ferguson has one more chance to claim a medal in tomorrow's K1 500m final.
Earlier, Ben Fouhy missed out on the medals in the K1 1000m final after finishing fourth.
Fouhy was unable to match his effort in Athens four years ago where he grabbed silver, finishing almost three seconds behind gold medal winner Tim Brabants of Great Britain.
Eirik Veraas Larsen of Norway was second and Ken Wallace of Australia was third.
Brabants led all the way to finish in a time of three minutes 26.323sec.
Meanwhile, race Adam van Koeverden of Canada blew out in the second half of the race to finish eighth.
It was van Koeverden's first loss in this event in three years.
