Mark Todd rolled the years back as he produced a clear round in the cross country and take the lead in the three-star three day event at Puhinui today.
Todd, riding Gandalf, picked up six time penalties for a total of 54.9 after two days of competition with the showjumping phase to come tomorrow.
After a foot-perfect performance, Todd said today that he would be taking Gandalf to Europe in mid-April to pursue the chance to compete in another Olympics.
Todd, who sits on 54.9 points is closely trailed by John Twomey who is on 62.9.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand squad for Olympics selection was reduced by two today with Matthew Grayling and Bryce Newman out of contention due to horse problems.
