Olympics 2012 eventing hopeful Clarke Johnstone is out of the running for London after his mount Orient Express suffered a leg injury.
The UK-based rider, who was part of the New Zealand team that won bronze at the 2010 world championships, is "gutted'', especially after such a promising run in the cross country at Barbury Castle International Horse Trials at the weekend.
Johnstone was expected to be named in the New Zealand eventing team for the Olympics which will be announced at 8pm (NZT) tonight.
The team is expected to be headed by world No 2 Andrew Nicholson, who will ride his top mount Nereo, and include double Olympic champion Mark Todd and Campino, Jock Paget with Clifton Promise or Clifton Lush, and Caroline Powell and her 19-year-old horse Lenamore.
Powell, who was the best of the Kiwis in Beijing four years ago with a 14th-placed finish, won't be at tonight's announcement in the UK following the recent death of her mother.
