New Zealand will have two showjumping representatives at the Sydney Olympic Games in September.
The New Zealand Olympic Committee and New Zealand Showjumping yesterday confirmed that Peter Breakwell and Bruce Goodin would ride in Sydney.
Breakwell and Goodin have spent the New Zealand winter competing in Europe. NZS selection panel convener Penny Stevenson said the riders had produced solid and encouraging performances in recent months. "We feel that these two riders and horses have the ability to finish in the top 25 of the jumping competition at the Sydney Games.
"Peter finished fifth at the recent Grand Prix in Hachenburg, Germany, against most of the top showjumpers in the world," she said.
Breakwell's horse, Leonson, is a bay Oldenburg gelding while Goodin, who competed at the Barcelona Games eight years ago and trained and managed the 1996 team in Atlanta, will ride Lenaro, a grey Holsteiner gelding.
The pair complete the New Zealand equestrian contingent for Sydney, with Kallista Field contesting the dressage, while the three-day eventing team comprises Andrew Nicholson, Blyth Tait, Vaughan Jefferis, Mark Todd, Paul O'Brien and Daniel Jocelyn.
