New Zealand cyclist Sarah Ulmer won a silver medal in the individual pursuit in the fourth round of the World Cup in Turin, Italy, yesterday.
Ulmer was 3s adrift of world champion and world record holder Marion Clignet, of France. The event was staged on a rundown concrete outdoor track, with Clignet's winning time 14s outside her world record.
Coach Ron Cheatley said the event was a low-key buildup to Ulmer's Olympic campaign.
"It was an old track and just part of her training really," Cheatley said. "She was reasonably happy but the time was terrible. The track wasn't really inspiring."
