Sarah Ulmer and her coach Brendan Cameron have slammed the velodrome for the track cycle programme at the Olympics.
Ulmer, world record-holder and champion, is a favourite for a gold medal in the women's 3000m individual pursuit.
Ulmer has had her first ride on the track, which is not fully enclosed.
She said it was disappointing officials have not produced an international class velodrome for the Games.
Brendan Cameron said the pursuit gold medal could be decided by the wind, with the rider having a tail-wind at the end having an advantage.
Ulmer races in the heats and qualifying rounds of the pursuit on Saturday night and Sunday morning, New Zealand time, with the medal round on Monday morning.
