An overnight rain delay did little to dampen Glen Thomson's quest for gold. The Otago cyclist went on to win the points race at the World Cup cycling event in Malaysia yesterday.
Coach Ron Cheatley described Thomson's ride as brilliant after the cyclist was forced to wait when the race was rained off on Saturday.
It was the second gold medal for New Zealand at the fifth round of the World Cup after the pursuit team of Greg Henderson, Gary Anderson, Brendan Cameron, Lee Vertongen and Tim Carswell won their event in track record time.
They caught Poland with three laps of the 4000m final to ride, according to Cheatley, and carried on to lower the track record they had set in the first round of the competition.
With little more than a month until the Olympic Games begin in Sydney, the pursuiters are unbeaten this year, and have grabbed World Cup golds in Colombia and Malaysia.
In further good news for the Kiwi team, Anthony Peden won the sprint bronze medal by beating Eyk Pokorny of Germany.
Fiona Ramage was sixth in the women's sprint.
