World champion track cyclist Greg Henderson would prefer to see a New Zealander back in the national coaching job.
BikeNZ is still skirting around the issue of Canadian Kurt Innes and whether or not he has left the position.
This follows criticism of his performance this week by two members of the Olympic pursuit team.
Hayden Godfrey said on his website that the team's performance at the Games as "extremely disappointing".
He added: "I am frustrated that Kurt was not able to put in place a programme that gave us our best opportunity. He lacked experience in coaching Team Pursuit.
"His position of NZ coach extended only to the Team Pursuit and he had little involvement with other members of the squad. He did not seem interested in listening to feedback from riders."
Henderson says he cannot comment on Innes as he had very little to do with him, but he cannot see why a national coach needs to come from offshore.
He said there is plenty of talent here, but it all depends on the hierarchy at BikeNZ.
Henderson has confirmed he will ride in November's Tour of Southland which will be his first big event since the Olympics.
