ATHENS - New Zealand cycling golden girl Sarah Ulmer moved up to fifth in the points race today, after the Colombian bronze medallist was disqualified for a positive drugs test.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced Maria Luisa Calle Williams had been disqualified from the race, held last Wednesday.
Williams, 35, failed an anti-doping test carried out by the IOC. She tested positive for heptaminol, a prohibited stimulant.
Under revised results, Ulmer missed capturing a bronze medal by a solitary point.
American Erin Mirabella (nine points) was awarded the bronze medal, with Italian Vera Carrara fourth and Ulmer fifth.
Both Ulmer and the Italian scored eight points, with Carrara taking fourth by crossing the finish line ahead of the New Zealand.
Williams "categorically denied" having taken a prohibited substance, the IOC said.
The Colombian delegation said the Colombian Olympic Committee had tested the athlete and the result was negative.
The International Cycling Federation (UCI) had been requested to modify the results and to consider any further action, the IOC said.
Williams has been ordered to return the bronze medal and diploma awarded her.
