KEY POINTS:
Hayden Roulston and Hayden Godfrey have given New Zealand a chance of qualifying for the Madison track cycling event at the Beijing Olympics.
The pairing finished 15th at the final World Cup meet in Copenhagen today, earning sufficient points overall to secure a place in the world championships in Manchester, where they will vie for a qualifying spot for the Olympics.
They were seventh in what was the toughest heat to just make it through to the finals, where they rode strongly.
"It was mission accomplished," Roulston said.
"That's what we came over here to achieve and now we can focus on the world championships."
Greg Henderson, who is recovering from a gallbladder ailment, is expected to join his usual partner Roulston in the world championships next month.
The Madison is a points race but involving two riders who share the duties, interchanging with a hand-to-hand sling shot motion.
Earlier in the World Cup meet, Dunedin's Alison Shanks qualified for the world championships in the individual pursuit.
