Richie McCaw might have watched over some of New Zealand's biggest disappointments at the Rio Olympics, but he is very much the "lucky charm" of the women's Black Sticks team.
The former All Black captain's fiancee Gemma Flynn has posted a picture of the pair with arms around each other at Rio, with the message: "We've sealed our place in the quarter finals. Loving our support team over here including this lucky charm."
Flynn signed off the message with a smiley face.
During the first week of the Olympics sports fans have mused about a potential 'Curse of Richie McCaw' after teams and athletes the rugby legend has been on hand to watch at Rio have failed to live up to pre-Olympic hopes.
Today he was at the Games' track and field venue to watch Valerie Adams win a silver medal in the shot put competition. She had been widely backed to win a third successive gold medal.
