KEY POINTS:
BEIJING - With two events to go, New Zealander Rebecca Wardell lies 25th out of 43 starters in the Olympic women's heptathlon after this morning's long jump at the Bird's Nest Stadium.
As many athletes struggled to find the right spot on the takeoff board, Wardell did well to record a distance, but it wasn't close enough to the 6m mark she targeted.
She followed up a first-round sighter of 5.77m with a no jump, then a 5.84m effort for 801 points to total 4369.
The competition lead has been seesawing between American Hyleas Fountain and Nataliia Dobrynska, of Ukraine.
Dobrynska hit the front again courtesy of a personal best 6.63m long jump as Fountain recorded two fouls before a face-saving 6.38m on the last attempt.
Dobrynska has 5045 points with only the javelin and 800m remaining, while Fountain is 16 points astray on 5029.
