KEY POINTS:
New Zealand heptathlete Rebecca Wardell has qualified for the Olympic Games with a score of 6108 points at a meet in Germany.
Wardell achieved personal bests in the shot put, high jump, long jump and the 200m, to comfortably better the Games qualification mark of 6000 points.
She beat the qualification deadline by a week.
Wardell had an extended deadline after recovering from hip surgery in May last year.
She is now expected to be nominated by Athletics New Zealand to be included in the team for the Beijing Games in August.
That nomination will then need to be ratified by the New Zealand Olympic Committee.
