KEY POINTS:
New Zealand runner Kimberley Smith had another top result yesterday as she builds towards the Olympic Games in August.
Smith, who has qualified for the 5000m and 10,000m in Beijing, finished second over the shorter distance at the Reebok grand prix meeting in New York. The US-based runner posted a time of 15min 3.83sec behind American Laura Fleshman, who was timed at 14min 58.48sec, with Ethiopia's Sentayehu Ejigu third in 15min 6.37sec.
While the 26-year-old has qualified for both distances in Beijing, she has voiced a preference for the 10,000m.
Smith last month slashed 45sec off her New Zealand 10,000m record when recording 30min 35.54sec in finishing second behind American Shalane Flanagan in California.
Nick Willis qualified for the 800m at the Olympics after finishing fourth in 1m 45.87s at the meeting. Yusuf Kamel of Brunei won the race in 1m 45.53s.
