Liza Hunter-Galvan has qualified to represent New Zealand at her second Olympic Games after finishing fifth in the Amsterdam marathon yesterday in 2h 30m 40s. The 38-year-old former Aucklander, now living in Texas, cut more than three minutes off her previous best time set in Dallas in December 2005.
The women's section was won by Magdaline Chemjor of Kenya in 2h 28m 16s. Emmanuel Mutai of Kenya was the overall winner in 2h 6m 29s. Hunter-Galvan competed in the marathon at the 2004 Athens Olympics, the 2005 world championships in Helsinki and the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. The standard for selection in the marathon at next year's Beijing Olympics is 2h 33m
