KEY POINTS:
The necessary disciplinary action has been taken over staff members taking advantage of wrong odds posted for a tennis match, New Zealand Racing Board (NZRB) chairman Michael Stiassny said last night.
But just what action was not being revealed.
"The board policy is never to comment on individual staff issues," Stiassny said.
"But we wish to assure our stakeholders that this matter has been thoroughly investigated and the necessary disciplinary action has been taken."
The incident arose from the Australian Open in January when the wrong prices were given for a match between sixth-seeded Martina Hingis and 19th seed Li Na.
NZRB chief executive Graeme Hansen told NZPA this month that a price of about $2.50 was listed for Hingis and $1.55 for Ha.
The odds should have been the other way around. In the match Hingis beat Ha.
Among those reported to have been involved in snapping up the odds was Trackside presenter Luke Radich.
Stiassny said from now on any staff members betting on fixed-odds markets must bet through their own accounts and not across the counters of the TAB.
"This requirement ensures a greater transparency and enables all transactions to be monitored," Stiassny said.
"To ensure this approach is providing the greatest practical rigour, we will review the policy again in six months."
