New Zealand fell agonisingly short of a dramatic comeback win against Israel in the second round of the women's lacrosse World Cup in Canada today.
They were originally drawn to meet Scotland in the second round but, after a number of protests, the draw was redone, with New Zealand taking on Israel. They let the Israelis jump out to a commanding 8-3 halftime lead but came back in the second half only to go down 12-9.
New Zealand will now take on Japan in a playoff for ninth and 10th.
