New Zealand were well beaten by Japan 22-4 at the women's lacrosse World Cup in Canada today and will now take on Austria in a playoff for 11th and 12th.
The Kiwis struggled to cope with both the conditions (43 degrees) and a slick Japan outfit who were quicker onto ground balls, more accurate in the transition and scored seemingly at will.
New Zealand will be keen to finish the tournament well after earlier topping their group in pool play.
