NFL: 'My heart has been broken' - Saints offensive lineman Jermon Bushrod's week-old baby daughter passes away

New Orleans Saints offensive guard Jermon Bushrod's newborn baby girl passed away, the 12-year NFL veteran announced on social media.

Bushrod announced the passing by posting pictures of his daughter, Jordyn Lynn, with both him and her mother Jess on Instagram. However, the 34-year old did not specify how the baby died.

'My heart has been broken. My baby girl Jordyn Lynn Bushrod passed away Thursday, October 18th,' Bushrod wrote on Saturday. 'She was only here for a week but we were ready to love her unconditionally. We will get through this with faith, family and friends. Thanks for prayers and support.'

According to Bushrod, who practiced with the Saints last week but did not play against Baltimore on Sunday, he knew there were issues before Jordyn's birth.

'We knew there was issues before birth, but we were ready for your journey,' he wrote. 'Because of you Jordyn our family is stronger. You were going to be special. We were not expecting or ready for this. Having you leave this earth after 1 week just hurts. My kids are my ❤ and to never see you again will be tough BUT our GOD will get us through this.'

He added: 'We appreciate all the love and support that have been directed our way. Rest in Paradise "Jo-Jo" and I will miss you forever baby girl.'

The Bushrod family received condolences from a number of teammates, including Saints tight end Ben Watson.

'We are with you. We love you. We are praying for you and mourning with you as best we know how,' Watson wrote on Twitter. 'May God provide divine comfort to your entire family during this time and the days and years to come.'

Saints running back Zach Line wrote 'Love you man,' while Los Angeles Rams tackle Andrew Whitworth wrote, 'Prayers for you and your family brother! Praying love is wrapped around your family.'

Bushrod was a member of the Saints team that won the Super Bowl at the end of the 2009 season, when he played left tackle. He would go on to play with the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins, before re-signing in New Orleans this season.

He was actually cut by the Saints earlier in the year, gut has since signed again.
