The bid to grow the profile of New Zealand's biggest road race has been given a boost with the announcement of a new sponsorship agreement with ASB.
The bank today announced they had signed on as naming rights sponsors for the Auckland Marathon for the next three years.
The Auckland Marathon, which dates back to 1936, has grown into one of the country's iconic events, with more than 17,000 participants to take part in this year's event in November. The event was recently acquired by Ironman, who have taken over the management and organisation of the races.
Geoff Meyer, chief executive of Ironman Asia-Pacific, said the goal is to grow the event both domestically and abroad.
"After acquiring the event earlier in the year, our plans will focus on further growth and development of the event by achieving stronger international reach and to deliver a rewarding experience for all participants. The sponsorship from ASB will play a significant part in allowing us to pursue these lofty goals," said Meyer.
