Defender Sheryl Scanlan has replaced Casey Williams in the New Zealand squad for the one-off netball test against Australia on October 29.
Williams was today forced out of the test after an ankle injury she sustained last month failed to heal by today.
Scanlan, who had been placed on standby should Williams fail to get a medical clearance, was confirmed in the team today.
Williams, 20, is expected to be available for the tour of Jamaica next month.
"I'm obviously disappointed that I can't continue with the Ferns against Australia," Williams said.
"I would have loved to have been a part of that, but I'm really happy to be cleared to join them for Jamaica."
Williams injured an ankle playing for Waikato last month and then had her tonsils taken out.
One of the brightest talents in the country, the athletic Williams was a revelation for national franchise champions Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic this year, being named player of the final.
Scanlan was a key figure for the Silver Ferns in their 2003 world championship triumph.
