Netball: Laura Langman suffers two freak injuries in five weeks of Australian league

Laura Langman's charmed injury-free run has come to an end, with the star midcourter struck down twice by freak injuries in the early rounds of Australian's Super Netball competition.

After going through nine seasons of the transtasman league without missing a game, Langman has already sat out one game for the Sunshine Coast Lightning with a foot injury. She is now facing a further stint on the sideline after suffering a dislocated finger in the Lightning's narrow 51-50 win over Collingwood on Saturday night.

Langman was forced from the court early in the second quarter of the match with a badly dislocated finger on her left hand, in which the bone had pierced through the skin.

She went to hospital for scans at the halftime break and the extent of the damage and expected recovery time should be known later today, once she meets with a hand specialist.

The setback come after Langman missed the Lightning's round three match against the Thunderbirds with a foot infection, which required minor surgery to clear out.

Injury disruptions are not something the superfit midcourter is accustomed to.

She did not miss a game over the entire nine seasons of the transtasman league, in which she played for three franchises - the Magic, Mystics and NSW Swifts - over that time.

Lightning coach Noeline Taurua, told Brisbane's Courier Mail she is hopeful her star midcourter will make a speedy return to the court.

"Laura hasn't missed a game forever. It was just a random thing with her finger," Taurua said.

"There's not much we can do about it now but wait to hear from the specialist and then we can move forward. I'm relatively optimistic given it's a finger on her left hand, not her right."

Langman will not take part in the Silver Ferns programme this year after being ruled ineligible for national selection after signing with the Sunshine Coast franchise.
