KEY POINTS:
Silver Ferns coach Ruth Aitken will prepare "plan B" just in case Laura Langman's stress fracture fails to heal before next month's world championships in Auckland.
Langman was injured during the Silver Ferns' last training camp. An MRI scan has revealed she has a small crack in a bone at the top of her foot.
Ruth Aitken said the injury had improved in the past week and she had been advised by medical staff that it was realistic for Langman to be considered for the world championships, which start on November 10.
Langman will be on an injury management plan and assessed weekly. In the meantime she will continue to cross-train.
If her injury does not heal in time, Aitken will consider her backup options, who include Liana Barrett-Chase, from Palmerston North, who has joined the team in camp in Christchurch, and Townsville-based Temepara George.
George quit the Silver Ferns this year to move to Australia to be with her partner, league player Sione Faumuina.
"Plan B will come from the wider Silver Ferns squad, which does, for everyone's interest, include Temepara," said Aitken.
"Obviously it is a little more complicated with her but that is one of the options that will be explored.
"We are really happy with the way Liana has been going here. We'll finish this camp, sit back and assess things and decide what is going to be best for the team.
"We'll look to ensure we have got the support available but the number one thing for us is to do everything we can to get Laura back."
