Yvonne Willering used to hate it - and now she's doing it to the Silver Ferns.
New Zealand's top netballers will learn if they have made the team to tour Jamaica, leaving on Monday, in a radio announcement on Sunday.
Seventeen players will get together in Auckland tomorrow for a three-day trial.
They will be sent away on Saturday night - some to go home, some to hang around Auckland waiting to see if they are booked on a plane to the Caribbean on Monday night.
Hearing your fate through the media does not sit well with Netball New Zealand's new professional image. Coach Willering is not proud of the situation.
"I know I hated it when I was playing," said Willering, a Fern for 10 years.
"But we just don't have time to track everyone down on Sunday morning. There's just not much time at all."
The 12 chosen ones have a day to pick up their new-look Silver Fern uniforms, which will be revealed to the world on Monday morning, before flying to Jamaica.
They will play three games in seven days, including two tests, before coming home.
The same team will play Australia in the Fisher and Paykel Cup test on February 27.
It is the start of the Silver Ferns' most hectic year, ending with the world championships in September. They also have the Coca-Cola Cup in March, the new Star Series with England, and a three-test tour by South Africa.
"We're asking them to peak once a month for the rest of the year. We've got to be realistic - they won't be 100 per cent fit going into the Jamaican series," Willering said. "But at least we have a bit of time on our hands before we meet Australia. We're picking this team with Australia in mind - Jamaica is our preparation."
