KEY POINTS:
Vector Arena chiefs are disappointed their venue has missed out on hosting world netball's showpiece event.
The finals day of the world champs in November will remain at Trusts Stadium in Waitakere City.
The organising board had considered moving the finals to the larger Vector Arena in central Auckland.
But members decided that posed too many logistical and operational risks and would not be in the best interests of the players or the event.
"A full Vector Arena for the finals day was an inviting prospect as a showcase for our sport and this country," said board chairwoman Sara Lunam, "and it would have given more New Zealand fans the chance to experience a world championship netball final.
"However, the operational hurdles to move an entire event along with live international television production to a new venue overnight made it just too risky, with too many compromises.
"Vector Arena is a good venue for a single netball test match but doesn't suit a world championship netball tournament," Lunam said.
The finals day of the tournament, which runs from November 10-17, involves four games and eight teams.
Vector Arena has only two changing rooms and no suitable warm-up facilities. Because of other bookings, teams would have been unable to train in the arena until the finals day.
Vector's major attraction was its 9000-seat capacity - around 3000 more than Trusts Stadium.
"This is a world championship sporting event and we felt that the players deserve the best operations and support facilities," Lunam said.
"Also, with the time constraints around access to Vector, there are simply no guarantees the venue would be up and ready for that first game."
Vector Arena general manager Guy Ngata said his team were dis-appointed, as they had put a lot of work into getting the final.
"All we can do now is get behind the event and support it and hope the event goes really well."
