Former Silver Ferns captain Adine Wilson was named captain of the Southern Steel for this year's transtasman netball league yesterday.
Wilson retired from international netball after New Zealand lost to Australia in the 2007 world championship finals to start a family. She and husband, former All Black Jeff Wilson, had a baby son Harper in June last year.
Steel coach Robyn Broughton also named young midcourter Wendy Telfer, selected for in the Silver Ferns for the first time last year, as vice captain.
The ANZ-sponsored transtasman league begins on April 4, when the Steel play the Central Pulse in Invercargill.
