The Southern Steel have fallen agonisingly short of an upset win over the Queensland Firebirds in Invercargill.
The Firebirds have won the match 61-60 after a last second long range shot from Steel shooter Donna Wilkins bounced off the rim of the hoop.
Wilkins finished with 28 from 30, while Queensland shooter Romelda Aiken scored a game high 37 from 42.
Earlier, the Northern Mystics downed the Vixens 49-45 in Melbourne.
