Six applications have been received for the Southern Steel head coaching role in the trans-Tasman netball league, but long-serving coach Robyn Broughton is not one of them.
Broughton, who has been at the helm since the team's inception in 2008, told the Otago Daily Times she would not be applying for the role.
Applications for the role closed yesterday and six applicants, of a high standard with a good range of skills and experience according to Steel chief executive Julie Paterson, had responded.
The Steel advertised the position after a disappointing season during which the Steel won just four matches.
Waikato-Bay of Plenty assistant coach Marg Foster and Steel No.2 Jo Cunningham, both seen as contenders for the position, had ruled themselves out of the running while former Australian international Natalie Avellino was believed to be keen on the post.
A panel consisting of Tracey Fear from Netball New Zealand's high performance programme, Steel board member Doreen Evans, Paterson and Dame Lois Muir will conduct interviews on Saturday.
