A shocked and disappointed Yvonne Willering was pondering her future last night.
She said she would take time out before deciding her next move, which is likely to include coaching offers from overseas.
She said there were indications in her second interview with the appointment panel that a change was in the air.
She felt let down by Netball New Zealand because she believed the Silver Ferns had made much progress and needed only slight changes to make them winners.
"I feel the team at this stage are really competitive ... and that a change wasn't really necessary.
"They thought I wasn't in a position to be able to take the team to the next tier up ... well! You could just feel somewhere along the line they wanted changes."
Willering agreed that a lack of consistency with the team had worked against her, but felt the Silver Ferns had shown enough positives of late to believe they were on the verge of better returns.
"Why not build on to that."
She said she was feeling positive after the first interview. "But the second interview I felt was far more negative and I guess it came through fairly evidently that they wanted a change in the team management." Willering admitted there had been disagreement with the players last year, but did not think that influenced the change yesterday. "That was a while ago. I was honest about it at the time and I got reappointed.
"And now when we're in a situation where we are very much a team, Netball New Zealand has decided it's time for a change. I think that's the most disappointing thing - that we've worked through the lows and we were starting to achieve the highs and I won't be there to reap those rewards with the players."
