KEY POINTS:
Veteran midcourter Frances Solia guided the Capital Shakers to their first win in the National Bank Cup netball competition when they prevailed 50-32 over the Flyers in Wellington tonight.
A strong start and finish to match, where the Shakers led the respective quarters 15-6, 28-14 and 38-23, ensured the Flyers never got a look in.
The Shakers made the most of the scrap for possession in a match that provided plenty of turnovers.
The Shakers enjoyed a greater share of the possession with 64 attempts at goal compared to the Flyers 48.
Shakers shooters Sala Hide and Lovila Paki, in particular, had strong showings with 80 and 100 per cent success rates respectively.
At the other end of the court, goalkeeper Victoria Smith was a thorn for the Flyers, successfully keeping a rein on her opposing shooters and cutting down their supply of ball.
Shakers captain Solia, who has been playing since the inception of the national league in 1998, was the inspiring force for the home side with her control through the midcourt.
The result left the Flyers the only winless team this season.
