KEY POINTS:
Julie Seymour and her Canterbury Tactix get to experience a rare netball phenomenon in Invercargill tomorrow night - a shot at redemption.
Less than three weeks after a 51-42 humbling at the hands of the Southern Steel in Christchurch, the Tactix can exact a little ANZ Championship revenge on their South Island rivals.
Veteran midcourter Seymour can remember the third-round clash like it was yesterday and was enjoying plotting how to reverse the outcome.
"Previously in our national competition you'd play everyone once and then you might get into a semifinal, which was your only chance to re-play someone," Seymour told NZPA.
"An exciting thing about this competition is you can look back, see what worked, what didn't work and what they did against us."
The loss was gutting for the Cantabrians, who had won their first two games and would have gone top of the table with another success.
"We were probably thinking about that and even if it takes only five per cent of your concentration, that's something," Seymour said.
"We didn't use the days leading up to it as well as we should.
"Steel did play a very good game, they were patient and passed the ball around.
"They shot very well and stopped us getting our flow, those are things we'll be looking at."
Seymour said while it was "tempting to sulk' and not watch bad performances on video, it was crucial they sat down this week for a spot of analysis.
Countering Steel's simple feeding to goal shoot Daneka Wipiiti - a simple lob was successful all night in Christchurch - will be high on the priority list.
Wipiiti has had a mixed season but was at her best in that match while Steel defender Megan Hutton was also a key figure, shutting down the Jodi Brown-led Tactix offence.
Seymour and international midcourt teammate Maree Bowden will seek to make life easier for Brown with more fluent displays themselves, conscious they had their least effective outing of the season.
Despite sitting out a bye last weekend, the Tactix are still sixth and are keen to pick up points against exclusively New Zealand opponents over the next month.
Seymour's initial opinion was that the Tactix' bye week had arrived earlier than was ideal.
However, she realised the timing was pretty good when taking a hectic pre-season into account, while it also allowed some time with friends and family before playing seven of their next nine games outside Christchurch.
She hoped her team could lift their game to another level.
"We had a fantastic start but then we kind of lost our way with the Steel, we were so disappointed with how we played," he said.
"We really picked it up again against the Melbourne Vixens although we came away with a loss (50-58).
"If we can have a win this weekend, which will be no easy feat, that will put us in good stead for the games to follow."
