AUCKLAND - New Zealand netball skipper Anna Rowberry is looking at a lengthy spell on the sidelines if the early prognosis on her injured knee proves correct.
Rowberry went off the court in agony during the third test against Australia on Monday night after twisting her knee when landing from taking a pass.
The midcourter said today that she had seen a doctor in Auckland "and it's not looking very positive".
"I need a scan to see exactly what I've done wrong," she said. "But at this stage it's not looking good."
The likely scenario was that she had ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament.
"I'm still getting a bit of pain and there is still a little bit of swelling," Rowberry said. I'm continuing to ice it and to try to keep it up as much as possible."
The Silver Ferns went on to win the test in Hamilton to complete a 3-0 sweep over their arch-rivals.
If Rowberry needs surgery, she will miss the return three-match series in Australia in November.
Another member of New Zealand's world championship-winning team of last year, Tania Dalton, snapped her anterior cruciate ligament playing in this season's National Bank Cup.
The Southern Sting shooter, who is expecting her second child in November, is due to undergo surgery in the coming week.
