There seems to be confusion whether Lesley Nicol has signed with Southland for the national provincial championships.
The veteran Silver Fern midcourter, who is on holiday in Europe, is moving from Invercargill to Auckland next month.
She had told Auckland Waitakere coach Judy Weston that she would decide who she would play for when she returned next week.
But this week Southland announced that Nicol had signed with them, much to the surprise of Weston, who then contacted Nicol.
Nicol said she had not signed and was still deciding.
Netball Southland regional manager Raewyn Penman was surprised to hear that Nicol's confirmation might not be legitimate.
"That is news to me," she said. "She was confirmed by our player negotiator [Lee Piper] on the day that she departed."
Nicol has played for Otago in the championship for the past three years, but has been a regular in the Southern Sting side in the National Bank Cup for the past five years.
The week-long national provincial championship tournament starts on September 20. A series of preliminary games begins on September 4.
