Thunderbirds 58 Mystics 34
The Northern Mystics were outclassed by the Adelaide Thunderbirds in a trans-Tasman netball league match yesterday.
The Auckland-based side were no match for the Thunderbirds, succumbing 34-58 as they registered their sixth loss in nine matches.
It was the Thunderbirds' seventh win from nine outings and came on the back of a dominant defence against the eighth-placed visitors.
The home side secured an eight-goal lead by halftime to help set up the win, putting further pressure on Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic (7-1) and Melbourne Vixens (8-0).
In one of the fastest and most aggressive games of the season, Thunderbirds goal defence Georgia Beaton was sent off with an injury at the midway point of the 10th round match.
Thunderbirds captain Natalie von Bertouch backed her shooting duo at every turn.
Goal attack Natalie Medhust was in excellent form, with 32 goals from 37 attempts.
At the other end, the Mystics shooting pair, Catherine Latu and Pamela Cookey, were not quite as effective.
Although only scoring 24 from 30 attempts, Latu managed some impressive long range goals.
