Netball New Zealand has raised the possibility of English, Jamaican and South African sides playing a part in the national league in future.
Chairwoman Keryn Smith confirmed that was one of the options NNZ was considering in its current review of the National Bank Cup.
While an idea to include Australia had been "on the table for some time now", it had also been discussed with England, Jamaica and South Africa at the Manchester Commonwealth Games in July.
Smith stressed that no proposition had been made.
"We've raised the issue that there might be some scope in future to look at our playoffs structure."
Her board was interested in "internationalising" netball, Smith said, "and we're saying there are other ways we could do this [apart from test matches]."
A board meeting today will discuss the review.
