Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic opened their 2005 National Bank Cup netball campaign with a convincing 60-51 win over the Auckland Diamonds here today.
While the two sides were neck and neck in the early stages the second quarter proved the clincher for Magic as they gathered momentum and the visitors went off the boil.
With a halftime lead of 34-26 Magic continued to dominate as Diamond's game fell apart.
Pressure exerted by Magic throughout the court ensured Diamonds did not get to full pace on attack and even a change in shooters -- Carron Jerram going on for Jo Morrison -- failed to get much going for Diamonds.
By the final quarter Diamonds were desperate to gain a bonus point if nothing else, but fell short as Magic maintained the pressure for the win.
Amigene Metcalfe was a very satisfied Magic captain, putting the victory done to consistence, sustained pressure from her side.
