Northern Mystics shooter Bailey Mes is facing a long stretch on the sidelines after sustaining a serious knee injury in her side's final outing on Monday.
The franchise yesterday confirmed Mes has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee, early on in the Mystics 28-goal loss to the Magic.
It was a devastating end to the season for Mes, who has been one of the few bright spots in an awful Mystics season. The young shooter has impressed over the back half of the season after being promoted to the starting line-up in place of the out of form Cathrine Latu.
Having stood up well against some of the top defenders in the league, Mes was being talked up for a Silver Ferns recall following her shock selection last season.
With Mes facing a knee reconstruction and a lengthy period of rehabilitation, she will miss the entire international season and will face an uphill battle to be fit for the start of the 2014 ANZ Championship season, which has been moved forward to mid-March in Commonwealth Games year.
