SYDNEY - Former New Zealand netball captain and coach Lyn Gunson will coach England against her native Silver Ferns at the Manchester Commonwealth Games later this year.
Gunson has succeeded Australian Julie Hoornweg, who resigned on Wednesday after falling out with players over her training regime.
While the England squad's attitude to training improved alongside their athleticism during Hoornweg's two year reign, All England Netball Association chief executive Pauline Harrison conceded there had been "on-going difficulties" between the coach and players.
Gunson was Hoorweg's assistant, while another former Silver Ferns captain, Waimarama Taumaunu, the association's national performance director, will also adopt a more hands on role in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games and 2003 world championships.
Gunson (nee Parker) captained the New Zealand team to the 1979 world title and coached the Ferns between 1989 and 1993.
