Former Otago netballer Jo Steed has the chance to make a new beginning after being named in the England squad.
The accurate goalshoot returned to the country of her birth last year and is preparing to make her debut for England next month.
England, third at the world championships in Christchurch in September, host South Africa before heading to the Caribbean for a three-week tour in August.
Steed, aged 25, played six tests for New Zealand after making her international debut on a tour of Britain in 1997.
She went to the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur the following year but had a 1999 she would rather forget.
She was dumped from the New Zealand team for the tour of Jamaica, missed out on the world championship squad and played no part in the national championships for Otago because of an injured ankle.
"I think just getting over here and settling into the London way of life was the first thing on my mind when I left New Zealand," Steed said.
