Jill McIntosh believes imports will have a huge impact on the ANZ Championship but hopes franchises don't get too carried away with recruiting overseas players in coming years.
Some of England's top players, including world-class defenders Geva Mentor and Sonia Mkoloma, as well as Jamaican shooting queen Romelda Aiken, are set to star in the new league alongside Australia and New Zealand's best.
The influx of top international talent has led to predictions the championship import rules could be opened up in the future, making it more like England's Premier Football League.
But McIntosh said if she was still a national coach, she would be very nervous about increasing the number of imports in the League. "I would like to see the number of imports decreasing in the ensuing years as franchises begin developing their own talent," she said.
The coach believes the competition has it right with the current restrictions on imports. "I think it is very wise that they have limited the imports to one, and then the second import has to be given approval by the governing bodies.
"Certainly, Netball Australia and New Zealand are very mindful of the fact that this is a wonderful competition and that they want their own players playing in it. They don't want the competition to have too many players from outside the two nations."
