But this year her focus is entirely on leading the Magic in their final push for a playoffs spot, beginning with a tough clash against the NSW Swifts in Sydney tomorrow.
Second on the league table, the Waikato-Bay of Plenty side need to win at least one of their final two games or risk putting their fate in the hands of other sides.
One from two sounds like a pretty straightforward assignment for the Magic, but with their final two opponents both occupying spots in the top four, the leading Kiwi side have a tough run into the playoffs.
Harten, who joined the Magic this season, stepping into the sizeable void left by shooting legend Irene van Dyk, is determined to ensure her side don't botch their chance.
"[The playoffs] will be a new experience for me, having never been there before. Obviously that's what every player in this league is chasing, and every day I have to pinch myself to not get too far ahead of myself and thinking about the possibility of the playoffs," said Harten.
"We have put in a good season so far, but we know we need to keep working hard and creating opportunities for ourselves."
The English international has been one of the leading lights in the Magic's unexpectedly bright season.
Having kept just three members of the 2013 side, the Magic were tipped to take a dramatic slide this season. But the under-rated talents of Harten, fellow shooter Ellen Halpenny and midcourters Grace Rasmussen and Courtney Tairi have formed a very slick unit in a tight timeframe, to ensure the new-look Magic have thus far enjoyed the same success of old.
They are on track to maintain their record as the competition's only side to have made the finals every year.
At 1.88m tall and slightly built, Harten isn't as physically imposing as most of the other shooters in the league. But she uses her smaller frame to her advantage, proving a slippery figure in the goal circle.
The big focus for Harten coming into the season was improving her shooting consistency, with England coach Anna Mayes giving her the target of hitting 90 per cent every game.
It's a goal Harten has comfortably met, averaging 91.6 per cent this season and sitting third in the league's top-scorers list.
But a couple of shaky performances in the back half of the season, when the Magic dropped two games on the trot against the Pulse and Steel, have left Harten wary of getting too carried away with her form.
"I think over the last few weeks [Harten and Halpenny] have been a bit up and down in our partnership and individual performances.
"We've been working really well in training, which is probably why there were the frustrations over the past couple of weeks because we haven't been able to put it out on court."
A polished performance against the Tactix last week went some way to restoring the Magic's confidence before tomorrow's crucial clash against the Swifts, with Harten and Halpenny combining for a total of 74 goals. The impressive tally suggests to Harten that the pairing are back on track.
While determined to make the playoffs, Harten admits that would make it extremely challenging to transition back into the England team environment before the July Commonwealth Games. The further the Magic progress, the more it will cut into her preparation with her national side.
Mayes has invoked a rule that England players in the transtasman league must be back on the plane to Britain within two days of their transtasman side's final game, making these next few weeks a very uncertain time for Harten.
"I think it will be quite hard to get on a plane and get back into England mode because I'm really focused on Magic at the moment and trying to make the playoffs, so it will be quite a challenge for me. Not knowing when I'm going to go home as well is quite daunting, because obviously with finals you don't know how far you will progress through," she said.
"We want to make ... the whole way. We understand the strong history this franchise has in terms of being one of the most successful teams in the competition, we fully understand and respect that, but we want it more for each other and to work and do well for each other."
