KEY POINTS:
Former Auckland Diamonds coach Sue Hawkins has been appointed coach of the England netball team. Hawkins, who missed out on the contract to coach in the new transtasman league, replaces fellow Australian Marg Caldow, who established England as a major force in world netball.
Caldow's contract ended at the conclusion of the Netball World Championships in Auckland, when England failed to take the bronze medal by a single goal against Jamaica.
Hawkins will take up her new position in February but her first major challenge for the side won't be until October when England travel to New Zealand to take on the Silver Ferns in a three-test series.
