PERTH - West Coast Fever came from behind to beat the NSW Swifts 67-66 in overtime in the transtasman netball competition at Perth's Challenge Stadium last night.
After holding just a one-point lead at halftime, the Swifts turned up the pressure on the Fever mid-court and with Susan Pratley terrific in attack looked to have the win secure.
After trailing by seven and by 48-54, the Fever scored the last six goals of regulation time as Nikala Smith hit the last to force overtime.
Caitlin Bassett proved the star in overtime with 11 of the Fever's 13 goals to help West Coast to three wins in a row for the first time and a maiden win over the Swifts.
While Swifts captain Catherine Cox still shot 36-of-47 in a good battle with Susan Fuhrmann, Pratley proved too good for the Fever's goal defence Josie Janz to finish with 30-of-35 for the Sydney-siders.
Bassett was solid for the home team with 54 goals, and Bianca Franklin added seven before going off with a calf injury in the third period. Smith replaced her and shot 6-of-8.
The Fever (3-2) next face the Firebirds in Brisbane while the Swifts (2-3) return home for clashes against the Thunderbirds and Firebirds in Sydney.
