Diamonds spokeswoman Julie Coney says it is now in the lap of the gods whether the Auckland Waitakere side will secure former Australian netball captain Kathryn Harby-Williams.
Harby-Williams, who retired from international netball after her side's loss to the Silver Ferns in July's world championships, is keen to relocate to New Zealand and restart her netball career.
As well as the Diamonds she has met officials from the the Capital Shakers and the Canterbury Flames. But whether the move eventuates depends on whether her husband, Cory, can secure a suitable job.
He missed out on the chief executive's role with the Breakers basketball team in July, but the couple want to come to New Zealand and have spent the past week or so in the country investigating several options.
He has applied for the chief executive position of the new Waitakere Trusts Stadium.
The Waitakere and Portage Licensing Trusts also sponsors the Diamonds.
"Yes, we are the Trusts Diamonds and yes, it is the Trusts stadium but in any job you have to win it on fair ground. So he has got to be the right person for the job," Coney said. "It has got nothing to do with us."
Harby-Williams met Coney and some of the Diamonds players last week. She had further discussions with Coney yesterday.
"I think their preference is to be in a larger city," Coney said.
"Obviously it would be a fantastic coup for us having the captain of the Australian team and the captain of the New Zealand team [Anna Rowberry] in the side.
"But at the end of the day it really boils down to where Cory can get a job."
Harby-Williams, 34, has said she has no intention of making herself available for the New Zealand team.
