Twenty years after playing her last test for Australia, Diamonds coach Sue Hawkins could find herself back on court.
Hawkins, 45, has added her name to the Diamonds' playing list ahead of tomorrow's crucial match against the Magic in Auckland.
But this is not some big comeback - she is there as cover for shooter Paula Griffin who is away with New Zealand Secondary Schools side.
Without Griffin, the Diamonds have just nine players.
"We didn't want to be in a situation where, if three players went down, we ended up with six players either," she said.
"The likelihood of me going on is a long shot."
An extremely tactical goal attack, Hawkins debuted for the Australian team in 1981 and was a regular through to 1986.
She said she had been training and had joined her team for a session on court this week.
Her return has been more successful than her attempt last year when she pulled a calf muscle 15 minutes into the session.
Jodi Te Huna's name has also been added to the team for the rest of the season. The Silver Fern is recovering from knee surgery but will be allowed to sit on the bench.
